According to a local newspaper, a new type of lottery fraud was reported in Austintown Ohio.
Initialy, the victim doesn’t see any scam and believes that he or she has gotten an unexpected win. One Austintown woman found $1985 in her mail from the Global Lotto Commission แทงหวย.
The cheque came with a letter. It informed the lady that she had won $125,000 of the lottery jackpot. To continue the process, she was instructed to call a specific number to speak with a designated person from the organization. The lady who received the letter was smart enough to not ring the number but to instead take the letter to the authorities.
The Global Lotto Commission is a popular cover for many frauds, but it does not exist.
The money and letter recipients would have cashed the check believing that nothing could go wrong. This is false. If anyone rings the number, they will be asked to send a portion of the money to a money transfer company to pay ‘administration fees’. The bank will find the cheque invalid and the victim will be required to send the money to the thieves.
Camelot, administrators of the British National Lottery and other legitimate lottery organisations, are aware of how common these scams are. They are trying to make sure that everyone does not give money or information to scams, and to explain what bogus communications are like. Scammers will want your personal information and your money.
The British National Lottery administrations provide useful information on their website. It is applicable to all global lotteries. These guidelines are becoming increasingly well-known, but they are still worth sharing.
A player who has been awarded a prize in a lottery draw will not be contacted by any legitimate lottery organization. Any winner must contact them to claim their prize and show their winning ticket.
All players who wish to participate in legal lottery must buy a ticket or join an association. This is a rule that must be followed. You will know beforehand that you are participating in a lottery because you have already paid money. Online lotteries are now possible, but you must purchase tickets before the draw.
Administrators of the British National Lottery or other legitimate lotteries will not inform you via email how much you have won. They also won’t ask for your personal information. They don’t have the right to.
These scams are getting more sophisticated. A link is embedded in emails that will take you to what appears to be an official lottery website. Your personal information and even the ability to download software will be required. You can then access your accounts and make purchases under your name using the information you provide. These links should be ignored.
You may still be unsure if the email or letter you received is authentic. You can check Google to find the official website of the lottery. If the results are different from the one you received in your email, it is likely that you have been scammed. It is worth searching for any lottery organization mentioned within any email, to see if there have been any scam reports.
Each of the global lotteries has its own website. Most have information about scams and how you can avoid them.
If you receive a letter, email, or telephone call claiming that you have won a prize for a lottery, you should destroy it, delete the email, or turn off the phone receiver. You can report scams to the local police and trading standards, but you must not follow instructions from scammers.
These scammers have already stolen too much from their victims. It is high time that we stop giving them money and information.
